In order to treat our patients according to the most up-to-date status of scientific knowledge and development, we conduct our own research.  To this end, we work together with highly reputed companies and institutions, such as the Fraunhofer-Institut. Our research covers all fields related to the treatment, ranging from refining the surgical techniques, the further development of the epitheses, to material research.

Some of the research results of past years:
// Navigation Device

Working together with the Fraunhofer Institut we have developed in our clinic a navigation device which allows the implants to be precisely located and inserted, also in areas where only a small amount of bone is available.

// Active eye epithesis
Meanwhile, we are working with the second generation of an active eye epithesis

that enables synchronised blinking of the eyelid.  The first research efforts in this field began already in 1999; we are still in the early stages in this field but, in a few years, active epitheses of this nature will belong to the everyday treatment of our patients.

// Research into new surfacings
In order to optimise periimplantation conditions, intensive research is in progress on new means of surfacing for the implant magnets.

// Quality of Life studies
Studies into perceptions regarding quality of life on the part of patients gives us insight into  needs, wishes and expectations related to the epitheses

// 3D surgical planning
To improve our epithetic planning we additionally use 3D software. With this we can give you a preview and simulation of the future epithetical reconstruction.

// CAD/CAM technics
Through the use of CAD/CAM technology we can create and implement in selected cases a digital workflow epithesis

 // Custom made Implants
Utilizing the CAD/CAM technology it is now possible for the first time worldwide through custom made Implants to treat complex defect cases with magnetic anchors.

// Stigma free epitheses
Along with the University of Antwerp and our Belgian colleagues we are engaged in the research of stigma free products and the creation and impact of designed epithesis. With this study we hope to develop product features that encourage our patients as epithetic wearers to feel comfortable in public.

Active eye epithesis
// The active eye epithesis enables the blinking of the eyelid to be synchronized with that of the healthy eye. It comprises a body that provides sufficient space for electronic parts, a battery and a small motor.
The amplitude range of the eyelid movement is regulated via an infrared interface; the blinking movement is triggered by an impulse transmitted by the healthy eye.
During the construction of the second prototype of the active epithesis, patients and research team had a lot of fun together.
